A goal of 209 days for bus and light rail operators is surely too low if The Bee is correct and YoloBus manages to have drivers available 239 days a year.When Paratransit-qualified riders are looking at a loss of their free rides and all riders are looking at a possible increase in fares, then RT bus drivers and light rail operators need to do their job -- or RT management needs to do its job.

One big difference between Yolobus and RT is that Yolobus contracts out their services.
ReplyDeleteI'm not necessarily a fan of contracting out services (I lived in Denver when there was a big hoopla over RTD contracting, and I've seen Los Angeles County MTA suffer through contracting out issues as well), but sometimes the spotlight of the spectre, or threat, of contracting out needs to be raised.
